From Science to Woodturning

David Hudgel is a retired academic scientist who has turned his lifelong curiosity toward the world of woodturning. Just as research once guided his career, discovery now guides his work at the lathe. Each piece reflects a balance of precision, patience, and creativity.

Why I Teach and Create

Woodturning, to me, is about discovery. Every piece of wood has hidden potential, and the joy comes in revealing it. I gain great satisfaction watching others grow in skill and confidence as they explore this craft with my guidance.

A Teacher at Heart

Teaching is as important to me as turning itself. My approach is mentorship-driven, offering one-on-one attention at the bench. From basics like lathe safety to advanced forms like multi-axis turning or resin work, I guide each student step by step, ensuring they not only learn techniques but also develop confidence.
