Why Study
with a Master?
David Hudgel has spent decades refining the art of woodturning—and now, he’s opening his studio to students who value depth over shortcuts. His teaching is mentorship-driven, with constant one-on-one attention at the lathe. Unlike typical group classes where instructors rotate among students, David stays by your side, guiding every cut and decision. Each session is intimate, hands-on, and rooted in time-honored technique.

Hi David, Kathy and I wanted to let you know how pleased we are with your live edge wood art. We picked this piece up during the summer at the River Road Gallery. Over the years, during our travels, we have picked up art objects from such places as Florida, Mexico, Italy, Russia and France. We now have a live edge painted tree trunk section from Grand Bend hanging on our wall. This is a very unique, colourful and a truly original piece to have in our home.

Dale & Maggie Lougheed
We had the pleasure of meeting Dave at the Sunset gallery in Grand Bend and like this bowl we came home with, we found Dave to be an absolute treasure. Kind and unassuming by nature, he provided the time and inspiration to kick start my husband's own interest in woodturning. Dale is planning a return visit to Dave's studio for some more formal instruction this winter.

I received a set of David Hudgel's bowls as a wedding gift. The smaller bowls make great decorations around our home and I always receive compliments on the beautiful large salad bowl when I have guests over. This was such a useful and thoughtful gift. I would recommend gifting a David Hudgel handmade bowl at your next wedding event, the recipients will not be disappointed.

I bought a stunning bowl, by artist David Hudgel on my last visit to Grand Bend. David really brought out the beauty of the wood and the craftsmanship is outstanding. This is a piece I will treasure forever.
