I constructed this Wood Art & Bowl Beauty website to share with you my passion for woodturning. In London and SW Ontario, I take a piece of firewood and expose the beautiful colors and grain pattern within in order to create a piece of wood art is an incredible experience! I hope you will be interested in joining me on this journey into the world of wood art. In the Blog I take you through this process of creation and in this website, I present some of the beautiful pieces I have developed using this process.

Seriously, you are encouraged to visit my studio in SW Ontario and participate in the process of turning a bowl or candlestick (for example) from start to finish. I have excited several friends and neighbors about woodturning and have taught them the basics of this artform and helped them initiate a great hobby. I hope you would feel free to contact me so we can get together and share this beautiful experience!

Here are some details of the production process:

1. **Creativity and Design**: Each piece of wood art produced by David is unique because no two pieces of wood are the same and the creative process utilized from one art piece to the next is never identical. In addition, the grain pattern, color, the presence of knots and bark inclusions, all particular to a given piece of wood influence the outcome, making each piece of wood art unique.

2. **Craftsmanship and Skill**: Woodturning requires a high level of precision and skill. Woodturners need to master the use of tools used to create smooth, even surfaces while also shaping the piece of wood art in a way that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. It can take years to perfect these skills. Once perfected, these skills can be used to produce beautiful pieces of wood art.

3. **Connection to Nature**: The art of woodturning connects artisans with nature. Once a tree is felled in David’s vicinity, and the wood is delivered to him by a local tree trimmer or friend, the log sections are cut into blanks with a chainsaw. Following this cutting, the long drying process begins. Once dried, a log blank is turned into a functional and beautiful piece of wood art. Surprisingly, this transformational process can be a very emotional conversation with nature.

4. **Functional Art**: Unlike many forms of art, wood art pieces such as David’s bowls and platters are food-safe and they are functional art objects, not only visually appealing but also meant for everyday use, from serving food to holding decorative items. This combination of beauty and utility adds a special value to woodturned creations.

**Satisfaction and Tradition**: For David there is great satisfaction in the process of creating something from raw material. It takes David several hours to create each artform and usually a week or more to finish one piece. Woodturning is also part of a long-standing tradition, passed down through generations, with techniques and tools evolved over time but maintaining a strong sense of heritage.

Overall, David’s woodturnings are special because they combine artistry, skill, nature, function and beauty - thus producing pleasing artistic objects. He would love to deliver a wood art piece to a lucky person in London, ON and SW Ontario.
